It just reminds me of something...

[her eyes are glued to this shoe that i am shamelessly using as angst fodder.]

When I was younger, when it got cold, my mother used to make boots for me by hand to help keep me warm. It was something she did to show that she was thinking of me... that she loved me.

My aunt and cousin came to live with us when I was fifteen. We thought that she'd just come to my mother to ask for help because her husband had died, but... that was a lie. My aunt had been having an affair with my father for years... my cousin was actually my half-sister. Aunt Qian tried so hard to replace my mother in every way that she could. She wanted her dead, and wanted to be my father's wife in her place instead of just his mistress or his concubine.

I'd almost forgotten about it... my aunt made a pair of boots for me, once. She worked her fingers raw like my mother did, but not because she actually loved me. She was trying to manipulate me into loving her, so I wouldn't see what she'd been doing.
