[THERE'S DEFINITELY AN "OF COURSE" her ego is valid, says Kashuu, who also has an enormous bloated ego.]
Yep! I'm not really sure where they came from or how they got popular, but people use 'em to layer up in winter and stuff when they wanna stay warm but don't wanna start looking like walking sleeping bags.
[Allow him to pull a few more off the racks, too, while he's at it. There are so many different types of floral and lace print tights...]
Not on their own, really... [He's calling out all the LIARS who says that leggings are warm enough PIXI!!!!!] But the trick is layering! You can wear a few of 'em and no one can really tell.
[this is so funny, us nerfing ourselves with cute shoes HELP...
Kashuu will locate a pair of cute flats embroidered with lilies in a sparkling silver thread, though! i'm tired of looking through fashion pictures after 2 days of it set me free]
[her eyes are glued to this shoe that i am shamelessly using as angst fodder.]
When I was younger, when it got cold, my mother used to make boots for me by hand to help keep me warm. It was something she did to show that she was thinking of me... that she loved me.
My aunt and cousin came to live with us when I was fifteen. We thought that she'd just come to my mother to ask for help because her husband had died, but... that was a lie. My aunt had been having an affair with my father for years... my cousin was actually my half-sister. Aunt Qian tried so hard to replace my mother in every way that she could. She wanted her dead, and wanted to be my father's wife in her place instead of just his mistress or his concubine.
I'd almost forgotten about it... my aunt made a pair of boots for me, once. She worked her fingers raw like my mother did, but not because she actually loved me. She was trying to manipulate me into loving her, so I wouldn't see what she'd been doing.
[THAT'S. That sure is a lot of stuff that was just said!! PHEW!! Kashuu's wondering if maybe he should offer to start covering people's mouths when they start going off on these tangents, because every single time, he's heard something that the other party definitely didn't want to actually speak out loud...
He's quiet for a second, pulling back the shoe as if that itself would retract the uncomfortable memory she was just thrown back into.]
...It's - that's been happening today. Um. ...You okay? [He almost winces at the inadequacy of the question, but he's still only five years into the whole dealing with human emotions as a human would thing.] Being pushed back into those places without any warning is really hard.
...yes, it's better now than it was before. My mother divorced him, and I helped her find her own household in the capital. I've been able to support her through my work with my clinic.
[her brow furrows, though.]
I just hope everything's alright without me there... and that my aunt doesn't try anything. My father didn't marry her after my mother left her, like she thought he would. He married the daughter of another family for political reasons. As I understand it, my aunt's life is rather miserable now.
[there is an undercurrent of "it's what she deserves" in her voice. she doesn't sound sympathetic to her aunt's struggles at all.]
She probably doesn't have the resources at her disposal to do much of anything, but... she tried to kill both my mother and me several times, and that was before she fell out of favor. She may not have the means, but at this point her resentment must be very strong.
I wish I was there to keep an eye on things.
[if she goes back home to discover that her aunt broke into her mother's house and stabbed her she will RIOT]
[Humans are always so fckin COMPLICATED!! HELP. It's not a story Kashuu hasn't heard before, and it won't be the last one he's heard that's like it, because humans truly cannot seem to exist with each other without some form of conflict emerging sooner or later.
Either way, since he's a very biased existence, he reflects her sentiment: if she's not sympathetic to her aunt, then he doesn't have to be, either. Binch is out here trying to murder people anyway hello!]
Geez... Yeah, humans with a lot of resentment can be- [Hm.] -a lot to deal with.
[To say the least. He sighs, his free hand rising to rub at the back of his neck.]
We really gotta get you outta here as soon as possible then, huh.

I see... that makes sense, I suppose. And they're not difficult to move around in, when you're wearing more than one?
no subject
Nope! The fabric's really stretchy, see?
[Stretchin' out one of the pairs of leggings to show her! Wowee, the future.]
no subject
How do they make fabric like that?
no subject
Um... I dunno! Maybe it's part rubber?
[Actually not that far from the truth.]

[hmm. she's eyeing he leggings with interest. imagine if she figures out how to make them and goes back to her canon with that knowledge.

My apologies, Sir Kashuu. That must have been unpleasant to hear. And seemingly unprompted, too...
no subject
You don't have to apologize or anything. You're the one who ended up having to share something like that...
[He doesn't say "sorry for being here and listening in THAT WAS CLEARLY PRIVATE" in words, but the sentiment is there.]
--Um, you don't have to answer or anything, obviously, but... is it any better? That whole... thing.
[That whole MESSY FAMILY THING.]
