...it's not a food garden, but. it's a garden! and honestly, jiuqing is used to flower gardens - they had them at her family's estate in suzhou, and in her father's home in the capital - and so she smiles when she takes note of them as she's checking out the area that was once the creepy-ass temple.

she also takes a detour into the gardens for a closer look, and is surprised - but not at all displeased - to find vin there.]

Oh! Miss Vin, hello.

[they've all been here nearly a week, and it's been days since the flower arrangements showed up in what used to be the temple, but it's still strange and a little melancholy to see them in such quantity and such variety here. she's looking at a patch of lilies when jiuqing comes across her.]

Hello. [a beat.] They are - nice, aren't they?

Yes, they are.

[she smiles]

My mother kept chrysanthemums in our gardens. I wonder if there might be any to be found here...

[allomantic]

Chrysanthemums...

[tilting her head]

What do those look like?

[countermeasures]

They come in a variety of colors, and their petals are... hmm, thin and long. Most of them are bunched up near the center, but some near the edges dangle, depending on the variety.

They sound lovely.

They are. If we can find some of them, I'll show you!

Ah... You do not need to trouble yourself.

[countermeasures]

It's no trouble at all.

[she seems a little uncomfortable, but it's just because she's awkward about people being nice to her.]

...do you recognize many of the flowers in here, or do they have different ones where you're from?

[she shakes her head.]

We do not have them where I am from.

Why don't we go on a walk through the garden, then? I can name the ones I know for you.

[she looks a little excited, even if she's trying to press it down as she nods.]

It sounds... nice.

[she smiles! it's a plan.]

The ones you were just looking at are called lilies.

I see. Do they have a scent? Like...

[she pauses, trying to recall what someone else called a different kind of flower.]

Like lavender?

[countermeasures]

Yes, they do. It's a more subtle scent than some flowers, but it's lovely.

[allomantic]

[she leans in a little to smell it, nodding after a moment.]

...It is nice.

[countermeasures]

[she smiles]

Many other flowers have scents that are a bit more obvious, but they're all nice in their own ways.

I like peony flowers best. Oh -
