[she sets aside the supplies she's been sorting through, then steps over to give her a hug]

You do not need to worry. I did not know her too well, it is just - a great shame, despite that.

I didn't expect anyone to hurt her, but I suppose expectations mean nothing when refraction is the motive.

A little of both, I think, in different ways.

If we all were fully in control of ourselves... it would be harder to accept, I think, that the people we've come to car for chose violence of their own accord.

...but... easier, in some ways, because our attempts to persuade them not to hurt others would have a chance of taking root. And easier, because if we do catch someone - at least it was as a consequence of their own actions, and not of being under the prism's influence.

It would still hurt to make someone we cared about pay for their sins, but... at least they would be theirs.

...The choice between watching kind people suffer unjustly, or being surrounded by people who could be cruel suffer for the choices they made.

Neither one feels good. They just hurt in different ways.

This place would be much different were it full of those only looking out for themselves.

I think... we're lucky in the people we have ended up here with, for the most part.
