If she'd chosen combat, perhaps there is a chance that she would face whoever killed 9S. But... there's an equal chance that she would have faced someone who had nothing to do with it at all, and if that person was to fall in combat...

...I don't think she wants to hurt anyone else. But I don't know what we're supposed to do now. With 9S's killer still out there, it doesn't feel right.
