[ the mods said they're a lot of different sorts of books and medical books would definitely be in there, just nothing to obscure/world specific basically, so we should be fine. anyways, he offers her a polite smile back, hanging his coat quietly and moving towards the desk to grab a few books off of it.
some reading on engineering—it's not light. but he actually is rather glad that jiuqing is here. her presence is always a rather soothing one. ]
[it is, after all, his apartment? he should be able to sit wherever he wants to. but jiuqing also enjoys his company, so she wouldn't be at all opposed to him joining her even if this wasn't his place.
she turns a page in her book.]
Some of the medical techniques described here are fascinating. We didn't have the tools we'd need for them in Daxing, but if it might be possible to get my hands on what I'd need for them here, I think I'd like to try...
No better way to learn than with a hands-on experience. I'm sure there are tools equivalent to what might be in those books in the Med Bay, perhaps?
[ he'll settle in nearby, letting her spread out on her segment and adding books to his own. between the both of them, the crystalline couch is a paradise of information to be devoured eagerly. ]
I wonder the same about the engineering capabilities of this particular... century, wherever in time we might be, it's certainly beyond my own home...
[ he will turn a page, i can't believe jiuqing and percy are readers and chatters. ]
I feel so out of time, out of place. I want to learn as quickly as I can. Do you feel the same?
I believe so, yes. That's what I was hoping to find when I chose this book.
[she WILL get familiar with modern medical equipment! she learns quickly when she has the chance to practice, so she should pick this up decently well. at least she already has a medical basis.]
...yes, I feel quite the same way. [it's nice to be able to talk to someone who Gets It.] Much of what I learned in Daxing was considered advanced for its time, but... it doesn't seem so here.
I'm sure the differences must be even more stark in the field of engineering...
Much of my own craft is rather advanced for the century as well. My rifle... is essentially the first of its kind.
[ they're going to be so unstoppable. but his expression softens for a moment as he glances over towards where bad news is resting against one of the large windows. percy laces his gloved fingers quietly. ]
To see they're so pervasive here is rather concerning. At least throughout these books, they're so much more.
[ a chuckle now ] Medicine does have the body as its singular constant. That's true. You can only advance upwards in methods, I bet.
[because that's so cool if he did. teach her to make things too! pleading face emoji, etc.]
It's fascinating to see how things have developed in other places, even though it can be a little difficult to grasp at first. Still - the challenge is half the fun, isn't it?
I did. It's the second firearm that I've ever made. "Bad News."
[ he will teach her to MAKE!! ]
I do like seeing the innovations and improvements. If I can get the supplies, then I could start making alterations to my rifle immediately. I see problems that I've had solved so elegantly...
Primarily issues with misfiring... I've excellent aim, but it's worth shit-all if my gun backfires and I have to waste time fixing it mid-battle. But these books offer a myriad of solutions by streamlining the bullets and the firing mechanism. I just need the materials and the time.
[ a wan smile ] Bass said that it may take a bit to procure such things, so... in the meanwhile, I can draft and draft again until it's just perfect.
How interesting... I have to admit I don't really understand what would go into making those adjustments [although she will in, like, four days] but I'm sure it must make much more sense when you're already familiar with such things.
When you do end up working on it, could I trouble you to show me how it's done? I'd like to learn.

[...what "bad news" meant on his profile. it's fine.]
What sort of problems had you been having? And what sort of solutions did the books suggest?

Sure, I don't see why not. I usually do need help on occasion when I'm working, so if you wouldn't mind it being a little hands on.

I'm hoping no one's put you through too much work while we've been getting settled in?

...not too much, no. I've had some work, but it's been easy enough. Hopefully it will stay that way.
